Hexham Saturday evening
Three runners from Dodlands at Hexham on Saturday evening......all in the same race. Er,....
So, the 2 miles novices' hurdle at 6.25 it is. It's been a fairly dry
last 4 weeks but like all trainers, we were impressed by the ground at
Hexham's last meeting and with drops of rain and continued watering,
Clerk of the Course James Armstrong has provided a going description of
good to soft.
That partly explains the '3 horses in one race' approach as all
connections wish to run once more before summer grass.
Shoeshine Boy has shown
promise is his two bumper runs and this will be his debut run over
hurdles. He's schooled well enough but this will present a different
experience for the Valirann gelding who will progress next season.
Kinerton Hill makes his
third hurdle appearance in fairly quick time. He improved from his first
run without being able to make much of an impact last time at Kelso and
we hope he can continue the progress here. Like Shoeshine Boy he is one
to benefit from the experience followed by a summer
at grass.
Which leaves Our Percy who is looking to build on an encouraging second, splitting a couple of useful sorts at Carlisle at the start of April. That race was over 2m 3½f and he does take a drop back in trip here. Still, he looks to be the best of our trio but there are a couple of opponents with slightly better form (bumper & hurdle) in the race in Jante Law and Nobby so this will present a fair enough test.
Good luck to the jockeys - David England, Craig Nichol and Callum Bewley as well as connections Mousetrap Racing, Simon & Angela Gillie and Kenny Lynn.
