The family
Having won an
Irish Point, Another Present was sold to race in England and was subsequently placed over hurdles
when trained by Heather Dalton.
A daughter of the unraced Bell Walks Run she is a half sister to 4
winners over jumps including top class Cheltenham Festival Stayers Hurdle
runner up Time For Rupert (winner of 8 races) and 4-time
bumper/hurdle/chase winner Minella Fair.
The 3rd dam, Bell Walks Fancy was also unraced but had an excellent
record in the paddocks. She was the dam of Persian War Hurdles'
winner Jet Rules, Grade 2 bumper winning Jet Tabs and 12-time
winning bumper/hurdler/chaser Hillwalk.
She bred five individual winners all told under Rules.
Another Present's first two foals were both Irish Point winners and the third is Go Millie Go who showed fair form to win a couple of novice hurdles for Stuart Edmunds in late 2020.
About the sire
The tall, angular Stowaway (bay horse, born 1994) was lightly raced
and was trained by Godolphin at 3 and 4. He was probably the only bright
spark for that operation during a disastrous 1997 season when he won
the Group 3 Gordon Stakes and the Group 2 Great Voltigeur. In his
only run at 4, he won a valuable race at Nad Al Sheba.
Rated 120 by Timeform, he was well suited by 12 furlongs, was
favourite for the St. Leger when withdrawn through injury on the
morning of the race won by Silver Patriarch.
He was acquired by Whytemount
Stud in 2001, and had fairly humble beginnings but Stowaway covered
books of 306, 280 & 230 mares in 2012, 2013 & 2014. His progeny have included such top class
performers as triple Grade 1 winning chaser Outlander, Grade 1
winning bumper/hurdler/chaser Champagne Fever and most recently dual
Grade 1 winning chaser Monkfish.
Stowaway died in 2015 but he had already proved himself as an
outstanding jumps stallion.
Season 2021-22 outlook
Our Percy arrived at Dodlands
Steading during February 2021. His owner acquired the gelding out of
Charlie Longsdon's yard at the Goffs Doncaster Sales of September
2020 with a view to training him for a Point to Point campaign. Of
course this
was severely disrupted by the COVID19 pandemic, so Kenny Lynn sent
Our Percy along to Dodlands .
Every cloud has a silver lining though and after an initial hurdles
run in mid March last season, Our Percy then ran a couple of
excellent races to be placed in novice hurdles. The first of these
was at Carlisle a month later over 2m 3f then he ran well to finish
3rd over 2 miles at xham in May on good to soft ground each time.
Our Percy is in pre-training prior to joining the yard in October for the 2021-22 campaign. He's a very nice type and starts the season with a BHA mark of 102. A fine jumper who will benefit for a trip in excess of 2½ miles, he'll start off in handicap hurdles with the option of going chasing later on.
Previously....
Local owner Kenny Lynn is well known in the Northern Point to
Point circuit and normally has a couple of horses in training in his Hawick
yard each year.
However, this season has seen the virtual abandonment of the British
Point sphere, so Kenny sent his recent purchase Our Percy along to Dodlands to
gain experience of competitive jumping.
It was at the Goffs UK September Sale of 2020, that this Stowaway gelding was bought out of Charlie Longsdon's yard. This ex Trevor Hemmings gelding has had just the one racecourse appearance, that being in April 2019 when not beaten far in 5th in a Bangor bumper.
