Enemy at The Gate at Ayr
Ayr 20th December : 2.10 pm 2m 5½f 0-115 handicap hurdle (Class 4)
Enemy At The Gate
has twice started favourite to win one of this last three races, and
will no doubt be towards the top of the market here again.
In fact, this has been the case with a few of our horses this season......just wish we'd
had as many winners.
Horses are running well though with lots of placed efforts - look out
for a racing review at the weekend that'll put everything in
perspective.
Anyway, our gelding faces his rival from Kelso three weeks ago,
Ballin Bay who triumphed by just over a length there. Ballin Bay has
been raised 5lb for that win but our Enemy At The Gate has been raised
2lb for finishing second....and he remains a maiden.
Yep, we're puzzled too.
Top-weighted (OR115) Southern raider Here Comes McCoy should be
competitive if taking closer order throughout. He finished 3rd last time
after several months of a break, making late-ish headway, beaten 11
lengths and was dropped 1lb accordingly.
The best horse in the race and he could make that tell here.
Although another to note is Kinneston Nick's Cream of the West on handicap debut after a seasonal opener at Hexham when 3rd to Lucinda's potentially useful hurdler Inox Allen. His jumping will need to improve but this is a lively sort.
Jumping is also a facet that Enemy At The Gate can improve upon and
if doing so, he should be in the four at the finish.
Sean Quinlan rides and good luck to connections.
