Today's bumper at Carlisle - Nights In Venice makes his debut
Day 3 of the Northern Racing 3-day 'festival' which sees the finals of 4 chase series' qualifiers at Carlisle today (Sunday).
No runners in any of these finals but we do give a racecourse debut
to Nights In Venice, a
5yr old Midnight Legend gelding, in the concluding race on the card at
5.45pm, a National Hunt Flat race over 2m 1f. Advance going report is
good to soft.
Generally, we've been quite pleased
with this season's bumper squad although that hasn't been reflected on
course. Enemy At The
Gate's 3rd place at Ayr earlier this month has been the sole placed
effort this season.
Nights In Venice is another of the progeny of 4-time winning hurdler
Well Disguised to run for the yard and his work on the gallops has
picked up considerably in the last couple of months, so fingers crossed
for a nice introduction here. Conor O'Farrell is in the saddle for
owner-breeder Al Duncan and best of luck to all.
There are 4 horses in the field who have recorded RPRs of 100 or more in a previous outing this season, so that is form of a reasonable standard. The Crawford Bros.' Largy Gift, Lucinda's Majestic Storm, Brother Ali's Tartan Cookie and Rebecca's Rafferty's Return will all be fancied to go close.
The others that have ran would seem to have a bit to find, but a very interesting newcomer is Pauline Robson's Doyen Du Bar. A 44,000 euros acquisition at the Store Sales of 2019, this gelding is a half brother to a couple of fairly useful winning jumpers in Argumental and Royal Native.
