Eight Bars of Piano
When main protagonist Lee Brilleaux of Canvey Island based R'n'B band Dr. Feelgood called out for ''Eight Bars of Piano" as guitarist 'Gypie' Mayo completed a fine solo during the recording of the band's late 70's hit 'Down At The Doctors', little did he suspect that what would follow on the final pressing would be 15 seconds of bass and drum keeping the rhythm moving along.
No piano.
And well, we kinda know how Lee must've felt during those 15 seconds on the subsequent promotional videos, Top Of The Pops appearances and 'live' performances.
I mean, the week just finished had started full of promise for the
inmates of Dodlands Steading.
After a slight lull in proceedings, there were 4 days of racing at
Northern tracks - Monday (Catterick), Tuesday (Ayr), Wednesday (Wetherby),
Thursday (Kelso).
And we had eight horses lined up to run, final preps completed, excited
owners and pretty much excited team members too.
And then #StormCiara appeared and wiped out the whole lot. No racing nearby. Nada. A definite case of Eight Bars of Piano!!
A step up to 2½ miles and first time into a handicap chase for Dali Mail on heavy ground at Haydock yesterday (Saturday) may well have bottomed our novice chaser for the season so that option was side-stepped. So it's been a couple of weeks since our last runner.
But those good people at the BHA & Musselburgh quickly organised a
replacement meeting on Tuesday and there's the scheduled meeting at
Newcastle next Saturday.
We hope to have runners at each meeting, and much like Lee we'll be all
set and rarin' to go -
horses readied, team on hand with owners set for a great day at the
races. Fingers crossed that the piano player turns up...................
If you're interested further, a short YouTube video of 'Down At The Doctors' can be viewed here and the, er, piano break is around the 2 minute mark.
