Baby Ticker run at Kelso on Sunday
We finish off 2019 at Kelso , where Baby Ticker attempts to follow up her Hexham success of a couple of weeks ago in the extended 2m 2f handicap hurdle. It's an early start at the local track, and Baby runs in the second race at 12.15.
A fairly typical mid-range mares Northern handicap hurdle, with the
field almost entirely made up of runners from the usual suspects -
trainers from the north plus the Crawford Bros. from Northern Ireland.
That does not stop this being a fascinating contest though!
12 runners and there are several horses having either their first or second run in a handicap so open to unexpected improvement. Top weight Millarville, Island Mahee, Scobie's Animore, Buttevant Lady, Sophie Fatale to name but 5.
She'sasupermack ran a couple of fine races during the summer over
further, while Hidden Dilemma and Birch Vale will be well known to
racegoers and have the form to win events such as this.
But the main dangers to Baby Ticker may come from slightly less exposed
sorts. Kirby's Dieu Benisse has now had a couple of runs since leaving
Nicky Henderson OBE and is capable of going close. Nicky R's Rubytwo has
also run well a couple of times this season and could well head up the
market.
Stef Keniry's Hermanus, at the bottom of the handicap, is thrown in on
her best form, and ran a very encouraging race last month after a one
year absence. Young conditional Emma S-C reduces the weight further, and
this mare will be running round empty.
Baby Ticker has her quirks, but seems to be thriving at present. She
should be suited by the soft ground but a slight concern is that the
trip may be on the sharp side these days and she may get outpaced down
the back straight.
Callum once again takes the ride.
