Off the mark for the season
Many congratulations to Scott Taylor and Alison Rhind of Star Racing on the success of their gelding Champagne Agent today at Sedgefield.
He's been a lovely horse to have in the yard, and been our only
venture on the jumping circuit during the summer months. He's been
running steadily, without ever really looking like winning, although
with Callum being out with an enforced absence through injury, Dougie
and Henry have had encouraging words for us.
He's not the easiest to train, but we've been careful not to overstress
him on the gallops, just doing enough to ensure he has been fit to race.
With a slight ease in the ground, and back at Sedgefield where he's
shown us he likes, Callum was able to take up the running quite early
on, and 'Fizz' made the rest and drew clear in the home straight.
Champagne Agent has been running out of the handicap, and was 10lb wrong here too, but we've never thought that weight was the issue, as he's quite a fragile gelding. A lovely sort though!!
Oh, and that's a first winner of the season for both Callum and ourselves.
