Promising 3rd for Paper Roses on debut

You know there are occasions, where through the benefit of excellent TV coverage, that first class race riding by jockeys is recognised, explained and praised. And for the likes of Johnston, Coleman, Fielly this can be quite a common occurrence.

Well, the ride given by Callum to Paper Roses in finishing 3rd on her debut in the bumper at Musselburgh on Friday falls into the 'superb' category for us. In a field of 12, Callum made sure our unraced filly enjoyed her race, steering a path on the outer throughout. Now, this could be classed as 'giving the outside to nobody', but not only was Paper Roses racing on the best of the softening ground but was also spared any inevitable bumping that happens when 12 inexperienced horses race.

Paper Roses travelled very smoothly throughout, being waited with towards rear before making some nice headway from 4f out to dispute lead approaching 2f out. Two horses with previous experience and good form (Kalaniti and Black Ink) set off for home, but without getting to the bottom of the filly, Callum coaxed a nice finish from his mount, staying on nicely to finish 3l 3rd.

Paper Roses will come on for this, and we look forward to an exciting racing career with her in bumper and hurdles races.

Seasonal debut for Hartforth tomorrow at Carlisle

OR120 rated staying handicap hurdler make his reappearance after a summer break tomorrow at Carlisle in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle. We've been trying to find a suitable race for 'Hart' for several weeks now, and whilst the race tomorrow is slightly short of his best we feel he's been going so well at home that we had to get a run under his belt.
