Debut for Paper Roses tomorrow at Musselburgh
Just the one runner but we head up the East Coast to Musselburgh tomorrow with Paper Roses. The 4yr old Gamut filly was in training last year here at Dodlands, and was one of a quartet we took for a racecourse gallop at Kelso in May. We've done as much with the filly at home as possible, so it's onwards and upwards as she starts her racing career in the bumper.
The advance going is good, and Callum comes in for the ride. We've previewed the race below.
Paper Roses (Kingy)
Musselburgh bumper - race preview
This is a fair bumper taking place tomorrow at Musselburgh, featuring a mixture of some nicely
bred unraced sorts, and several with promising runs under their belt
already.
Firstly the horses with previous form headed by Brother Ali's Dubai Shen
who is as close to winner without a penalty having unshipped Craig about
50 yds from the line when clear at Sedgefield in May.
Black Ink started fav at Kelso on his debut at the beginning of the
month, finishing second but this appears a stiffer task.
The Irish trained Canny Tom has some bumper winners close up in his
pedigree and finished 3rd on his only race to date in August. Sure to
come on from that run and should be prominent here.
Kalaniti has started at big prices in each of her two races and most
recently chased home a Greatrex hot-shot at Aintree in October. A repeat
of that form would surely see her win here.
Of the unraced sorts, Lucinda runs a couple and Sweet Holly, by Kayf
Tara out of a full sister to Presenting, would seem to be a very shrewd
purchase. She looks the second string tomorrow however, with the stable's other
runner being Sammy B, bred by Geoff Brown out of his mare This Thyne (a
winning hurdler who started her racing career 14 years ago to the day, a
beaten even money favourite). Both may be better suited by further over
hurdles.
Peter Niven has a 50% winning record with his bumper runners here over
the last 5 seasons, and is represented by Brian Boranha, a €20,000
purchase at Tatts Ire NH sale in August 14. Could well be the one for
money.
Swinbank's Matdula is a half brother to numerous winners, and comes from
a yard whose horses are primed for debut runs in bumpers, while Outlaw
Josey Wales is a Jeremy gelding bought in a store sale in August this
year as 'broken, guaranteed untried'.
Phew, this is quite a competitive race which could be won by any of 4 or
5 horses highlighted above.
We'd be looking for Paper Roses to have a nice introductory race, enjoy
herself, and finish nicely. Of course win if she can.
