A fine third at Haydock

Potassium Partnership's 5 yr old Midnight Legend gelding, Shades of Midnight ran a cracker today at Haydock, staying on well to take 3rd place on the run in, in the opening 2m 7f handicap hurdle.

He settled nicely in the rear, and apart from a couple of minor blemishes jumped well. Turning out the back straight, Shady was well placed, albeit on the heels of several horses in pursuit of the leader (and winner) Island Heights from Lucinda's yard. Driven 2 out, he bravely responded to Callum's urgings and stayed on passed 3 or 4 horses from 2 out to take 3rd place on the run-in. He may well have needed this race still, in terms of experience and condition and finished off the race very well after finding his second wind.

He's well suited by this staying trip, which leaves plenty of options open to us for the rest of the season. We look forward to sitting round the table to work out where to run next with Nick and his ever enthusiastic group of owners.

Exciting times!!

Handicap Mark

Post script to last Saturday's handicap at Wetherby.

Snapping Turtle has been raised a further 3lb to OR117.  The winner - by 1½ lengths - Call It On has been raised 4lbs.
We emphasise again, the 10 yr old, rising 11, Snapping Turtle's highest wining mark is OR104.
We'd be delighted if anyone could explain the rationale behind this.
