2 runners at Ayr tomorrow
We do seem to be in a bit of a lull at the moment, with a few of our recent runners not really showing the form they are capable of. Still, we head off to Ayr tomorrow with Snapping Turtle and Paper Roses who are opposite end of the spectrum as far as racing careers go.
Snapping Turtle is an 11yr old, a veteran in some eyes having run 25
races so far. Just listening to the TV in the background as I write, and
Dr Newland (Grand National winning trainer) was quoted as saying that
there is no physical age-related reason why horses cannot run up to
13-14 years of age.
It is the physical injuries that a horse may pick up throughout their
careers that prevent longevity in racing terms.
Dropped a couple of pounds from his last run, so we go in the staying
handicap hurdle more with hope rather than belief on how competitive
he'll be.
Paper Roses makes her re-appearance in the bumper following on from her promising debut run at Musselburgh where she finished 3rd. Just one winner has come out of that race, but several that have run have held the form up well and we believe our mare has improved since, so that only leaves current stable form as a worry.
No, seriously, Lucinda quite rightly thinks a lot of Selkirk's Island, Skelton has not just sent Al Reesha all the way up for some sea air, and there are a couple of likely sorts from across the sea, best of which is Stuart Crawford's Undisputed.
Should be a good closing race.
