Off the mark in 2014!
What a start to the New Year!!
Our first runner this year, Hartforth,
was the decisive winner of the extended 3 mile handicap hurdle at a wind
and rain-swept Musselburgh today. Confidently ridden by Callum, the
gelding was switched off at the back of the 9 runner field, but was
always in touch thanks to his slick hurdling technique.
Halfway down the back straight, Callum asked Hartforth for his effort
and was soon on the heels of the leaders. Round the bottom bend it
looked a 2-horse race as the Dickie Johnson ridden favourite Solidago
was in front and travelling well.
But when Callum forced Hartforth upsides and eye-balled the Irish
raider, our tough as teak gelding would not be denied, and he forged
into a clear lead approaching the last. Another fantastic leap sealed
it, and Callum brought home our 5th winner of the season.
Oh, and thanks Joe - we'll return the favour in due course!!
Hartforth - one tough cookie!
Bollin Fiona tries again at Newcastle tomorrow
Our dour, staying mare Bollin Fiona runs in the 2m 6f handicap hurdle at
Newcastle tomorrow. Trip should just about be ideal for Fiona, and she
will enjoy the testing conditions.
Strictly on the book, there are 3 or 4 better handicapped rivals, but
we're hoping for a competitive run from the mare.
