The family

The Silver Patriarch mare Celine Message was unraced, and to date her only 3 progeny are Bluefortytwo (hurdle winner also bumper placed), a 2016 filly by Multiplex (as yet unraced), and this gelding also by Multiplex born in 2017.
She is the daughter of lightly raced Queens Connection who is the dam of 3 individual winners, namely 11 times winner on the flat Queens Consul and winning hurdlers Bypharbeanri and Lazuli Moon (GB).

Celine Message is a half sister to the unraced Grey Mo who is a successful broodmare being the dam of National Hunt winners Wings of Smoke (IRE) (6 wins, Grade 2 placed chaser), Kings Grey (6 wins) and Boss In Boots (3 wins).

Further back, the family boasts top class Flat horses such as Cezanne, Colorspin, Kayf Tara and Opera House.

About the sire

Multiplex (bay horse, born 2003) was trained throughout his career in France by Andre Fabre. Winner of 4 of his 8 starts, he won a 7f Group 3 race as a 2yr old and at Listed level at both 3 and 4 over 1 mile.

Multiplex is from a family with successful pattern race performers in abundance. 5 of his siblings have achieved black type on the level while his dam (Shirley Valentine) is from an outstanding family having such as Deploy, Commander in Chief and Warning as brothers.

Multiplex retired to Mickley Stud in 2008 and stood there as a dual-purpose stallion until 2016. He has sired Group and Listed winners on the Flat in Britain as well as over 200 winners across the globe. With many NH types still coming through, his best known jumper thus far is Gordon Elliot's x-country jumper Out Sam.
In February 2017, it was announced that Multiplex would stand at Al Muzdaher Stud in Bahrain after being purchased by Sheikh Abdullah Bin Isa Al Khalifa

Season 2022-23 outlook

Gie It Laldy had a nice introduction to racing last January at Ayr when finishing 5th in a 5 runner 2 mile bumper at Ayr, beaten just over 13 lengths. He held every chance 2f out and was only pushed back into 5th in the final furlong by a couple of horses from the rear. the winner of that race has gone on to win two novice hurdles and the second horse (Tfou) has continued to show promise being placed in a couple of novice hurdles too.

Next time, Gie It Laldy was well beaten in a similar event at Kelso but we're inclined to draw a line through that race as he was subsequently diagnosed with a minor leg injury. Several weeks of box rest and a summer at grass later, the gelding re-appeared at Dodlands in preparation for the 2022-23 campaign.
Mid October and Gie It Laldy is coming Up-the-Middle a couple of times each day with his stable companions so it wont be long (November) before he start off in a bumper prior to tackling novice hurdles.

Promising sort.

Profile....

Gie It Laldy is a lovely athletic gelding by Multiplex who was actually in training here at Dodlands at the back end of the 2020-21 season as a 4yr old.
Then, he impressed the work riders with his attitude in and around the yard and showed no lack of ability on the gallops either.
This gelding is actually a half brother to Rob Bewley's former Dodlands trained bumper horse Bluefortytwo. Bluefortytwo finished second in an Ayr bumper in January '18 before being sold to a patron of James Ewart's yard and has gone on to win one hurdle race so far.

Mid September and 'Derek' has just returned to Dodlands and is doing some roadwork in preparation to build up the morning exercise. We would hope he will make a bumper debut before the end of the year.

31 January 23 Newcastle : 2m 4½f Novice Hurdle (Class 4) soft 8 ran (Henry Brooke) - pulled up                                                                   race video
Towards rear, pushed along and weakened before 4 out, lost touch and pulled up 3 out
Gie It Laldy didn't jump with any fluency and struggled to stay in touch in the back straight

29 December 22 Kelso : 2m Novice Hurdle (Class 4) heavy 8 ran (Callum Bewley) - 6th  (beaten 68l)                                                              race video
Held up in 2nd group, not always fluent, never able to challenge
The first three in this race were much better on the day and Gie It Laldy raced in the second bunch. His jumping was a bit careful early on but he improved a bit as the race went on.

5 November 22 Kelso : 2m NH Flat Race (Class 4) good to soft 12 ran (Callum Bewley) - 5th  (beaten 10¾l)                                                   race video
Prominent, every chance 2f out, ridden approaching final furlong, no extra.
Although the race was marred by the falls of 3 of the fancied horses on the home turn, this was a nice enough effort from Gie It Laldy who was bang there 2 furlongs from home. Just lacked that little bit of acceleration but he should come on for the run.

18 February 22 Kelso : 2m NH Flat Race (Class 4) heavy 7 ran (Callum Bewley) - 5th  (beaten 41½l)                                                                race video
Tracked leaders, ridden 3f out, soon weakened and lost touch, finished tired
We did suspect from his debut run that Gie It Laldy would be suited by better ground but the going here was verging on bottomless by the time of this last race on the card.

9 January 22 Ayr : 2m NH Flat Race (Class 5) soft (heavy places) 5 ran (Callum Bewley) - 5th  (beaten 13¾l)                                                race video
Tracked leader, disputed lead 3 out till ridden and weakened approaching final furlong, promising
Gie It Laldy has run a fine race on his debut here on pretty testing ground. He held every chance 2f out but was just caught out for experience by the winner (Elliott's Burn The Evidence) and was passed by 2nd and 3rd approaching the final furlong. Suited by a sounder surface.
