Saturday, crack of dawn, and we're off to Haydock with Shoeshine Boy
Haydock 30th December : 12.15 pm 3m ½f 0-115 Conditional Jockeys' handicap hurdle (Class 4)
Theo Gillard has had a few rides for the stable over the past few
seasons (and a couple of winners too, including this race in 2021) but
this race will see his brother Fergus ride for us for the first time.
And delighted we are that he is able to ride
Shoeshine Boy in the
Conditionals' handicap hurdle which opens Haydock's Saturday card.
The Valirann gelding did have a quiet spell on the gallops a few weeks
ago but seems in better form now.
He's a consistent type - run to the just about same RPR rating in six of
his last completed seven starts. However, that can be more of a
milestone than an accolade as far as winning races is concerned and yet
again that level may just find one or two better at the weights here.
Still, 3 miles and heavy ground will suit, so here we go..............
Venetia Williams' Hill of Tara is a dual winner over 2m 4f already
this season and being from the family of top class 3 mile chaser Ollie
Magern shouldn't be inconvenienced by this step up to 3 miles. Acts on
heavy.
Jonjo's Front View is gradually showing signs of recapturing his best
form - Grade 3 placed as a novice hurdler when with Joseph O'Brien - and
his young jockey claims 10lb in this race. Stays 3 miles and acts on
heavy. A major player.
Chris Cool is a much better hurdler than chaser as this 7yr old showed
this season with a win and a runner up spot in the last couple of
months. A thorough stayer who should find this test to his liking but he
may not be just quick enough for victory.
Good luck to young Fergus and to Mouse Young & Mousetrap Racing cohorts.
