Wetherby review yesterday

Snapping Turtle ran his heart out yesterday, but not for the first time in the last year, just found one too good for him on the day going down 1½ lengths to Phil Kirkby's Call It On.

Setting off at the head of affairs in this 3 mile handicap hurdle, Snapping Turtle jumped well throughout and battled on when challenged for the lead 4 out. He was still leading when headed by the winner approaching 2 out, but kept on to the line just going down.

Snapping Turtle is facing the problem that many consistent performing horses have with an ever increasing BHA rating but without actually winning. He has finished second 5 times in the last 12 months, his last winning mark was OR104 and has risen 10 lbs for not winning, racing off OR114 yesterday.

We can only hope that the handicapper does not see fit to raise this 10yr old again for not winning.
