27th January news

Newcastle runners tomorrow

It seems ages since our last runner, so we send both Bollin Fiona and Tomahawk Wood to Newcastle tomorrow.

The good to soft going will probably be a bit on the lively side for Fiona, but she made a pleasing enough return at this venue at the beginning of the month, whilst Tomahawk Wood is still quite inexperienced and will improve for the run, his second over hurdles.

Callum and his flat mate Jamie come in for the rides, so good luck to them plus Ian, Greg and Chuck too.

Kelso winners enclosure - a couple of weeks back

Any winner is a cause for celebration but when you've bred the horse as well....

Such was the case with Shades of Midnight and those proud members of the Potassium Partnership. And on only his third appearance over hurdles, the well-made 5yr old gelding triumphed at Kelso couple of weeks past Sunday. The handicapper was impressed as well, judging him to be worthy of OR123. Probably based on a line through the listed hurdles winning Thorpe in second. Incidentally Thorpe went on to finish 4th in a Grade 2 event next time, and showed improved form to do so.

Nevertheless, we know our gelding does need more experience to sharpen up his jumping to win off such a mark in a handicap. We stated at the start of the season that he was a promising hurdler, so it's nice to be proved correct occasionally!
