28th February news

Today's Kelso runners

Kelso has several stand out meetings each season nowadays, and today our local track hosts the best of these.

There is the 3 mile Listed Premier Chase, and the Grade 2 Premier Hurdle over 2m 2f. The latter event has attracted an extremely classy field of 8 novices who have won 11 races between them this season. NTD's Grade 1 4-yr-old Bristol De Mai is an obvious one to catch the eye, whilst at the top of the list Nicky's Glingerburn (unbeaten over hurdles) has been very progressive.
That said, nothing ventured, nothing gained so we're pitching in with our own favourite hurdler Shades of Midnight. He'll need to improve a fair bit on (his fairly impressive) form shown to date, but we know he's an improving sort also. In time, he'll want further than this trip, and if his hurdling is a bit slicker, our gelding may be staying on best and sneak into a place.
Either way, it's a very exciting day for the Potassium Partnership and hope all enjoy the day win, lose or draw.

But that's not all......

First up, Ian & Greg Aitken's lovely novice Tomahawk Wood has his third outing as a hurdler in the opening 2m novice hurdle. The gelding spoilt his chances last time by failing to settle over 2m 4f, so we're hoping the faster pace here, over a shorter trip, may help.

Later on, that admirably consistent mare Bollin Fiona takes her chance in the staying hurdle. 2m 6½f? Good to soft? Yes, we know, a bit on the sharp side, and on lively ground but she takes her racing well, and its just down the road so.....what the heck.

All in all, a fun day out at Kelso, so fingers crossed!
