Snapping Turtle runner up at Catterick
Up in grade, up in weight (8lb), but what a fine race Snapping Turtle ran in defeat to Harriet Graham's Macgillycuddy. Given another outstanding ride by Callum - this time from the front - the gelding delighted us all but found one just too good.
Prior to the race we thought Snapping Turtle would do well to be placed,
but our confidence grew the longer the race continued. Jumping well in
the main, Callum set off making the pace at a steady gallop, and gave
the inside to no one - even if a couple of his colleagues did try!
We felt there were some exposed types in the race who were better off at
the weights than our gelding, but it was the unexposed bottom weight,
who'd been backed all morning, that joined Snapping Turtle at the last,
and just too much pace in the end.
This was probably a career best for Snapping Turtle, but we do hope the handicapper takes a realistic view to the form!
