The family

The dam of Neigh Botha, Holmshill Gill was unraced but is from an excellent National Hunt family.
A daughter of the unraced Native Mo, she  is a half sister to 3 black type performers in Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Native River, Grade 1 chase winner Orpheus Valley and Rendlesham Hurdle 3rd Night In Milan.
In all, her siblings have won 23 races over jumps.

Native Mo is also a half sister to Milford Run who is the grand dam of several more black type horses in Misty Whisky, Air Horse One and One for Rosie.
Neigh Botha is the 3rd foal of Holmshill Gill and his elder brother are already winners in the NH field. Arthur Fonzarelli has won over hurdles and Scorpion's Revenge won a bumper on debut in 2021.

Holmshill Gill had a bay colt by Workforce in 2019 and was covered by Milan in 2020.

About the sire

The value of sons of Sadler's Wells to National Hunt breeders grows each year and shows no sign of abating into the 2020s. One of the very best is the tall, rangy Doyen (bay horse, born 2000) who was bred by Sheik Mohammed and raced for Godolphin from 2 to 5.
A high-class middle-distance colt, his victories at 4 included the Hardwicke Stakes & King George. This was his best racing year, high class form as evidenced by a Timeform Rating of 132.
Doyen is extremely well bred. His dam was second in the French Oaks and he is a sibling to several black type winners including full sister Moonshell who won the Epsom Oaks.
With that background, Doyen started life as a Flat Sire in 2006 at Dalham Hall Stud but was moved to Germany for 3 seasons in 2009. He then relocated to Sunnyhill Stud in Ireland where he has stood since.
The sire of over 50 winners on the Flat, he has bred over 200 NH winners with more to come for sure. His best have been Battleoverdoyen (Grade 1 hurdler/chaser), Grade 2 hurdler Beacon Edge and Grade 2 chaser Valdez.

Form Summary

Season 2021-22 outlook

Neigh Botha was in training here at Dodlands for a few months at the back end of the 2020-21 season. Didn't make it to the racecourse but he did really well and was working upsides the string in morning exercise.
Roughed off towards the end of Spring '21 and after a couple of months enjoying summer grass, he came back into training at the end of July for a 2021-22 campaign. Early stages but he is working well.

Neigh Botha, a good looking gelding as befits a grandson of Sadler's Wells, is very promising - one to look forward to in 2021-22.
His debut may not be too far away and really dependent upon the easing of ground towards the end of October.

Previously....

When Neigh Botha was sold at the 2020 Goffs UK Store Sale, the catalogue showed him as the 3rd foal of an unraced dam who was yet to produce a winner. Though the family boasted several Grade 1 winners - such as Native River - Holmshill Gill's close-up page was looking a bit bare in comparison.

Fast forward 18 months and it's a completely different story.
First foal out of Holmshill Gill by Masterofthehorse named Arthur Fonzarelli ("Eyy!") is in training with Henry de Bromhead and won a hurdle as a 5 year old, while the Keri Brion trained Scorpion gelding Scorpion's Revenge ran out an impressive winner on bumper debut, also as a 5 year old in April 2021 at Cork.

Neigh Botha joined Dodlands Steading in February 2021.

Tracked leader, ridden 3f out and stayed nicely in touch, hard driven 2f out to dispute lead, kept on to assert inside final furlong
Impressive debut by Neigh Botha who was a stand-out in the paddock. Will be better suited by a more galloping track and looks sure to progress into a very nice hurdler next season. McCain's Sweet Auburn is a good yardstick (beaten 6 lengths in 3rd) and this run can be rated as a useful effort..
