The family

Kinerton Hill is the first foal of the unraced Gingerlina, a daughter of Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Marienbard.

Gingerlina's full brother Master Tradesman was an Irish Point winner and showed fair form over hurdles when runner up twice in 2018.
The grand dam, Tobeornotobe achieved black type over jumps when placed in a Grade 3 chase in 2005 and had previously been successful in Irish Points, a bumper, hurdles and over fences.
The 3rd dam, Rainy Weather was prolific in Irish Points winning 5 times and as well as Tobeornotobe also bred Nick The Beak a fair hurdler with 5 wins to his credit.
Further back in the family can be found Listed Chase winner Haki Saki and Grade 2 hurdler Phardante Flyer.

Subsequent to Kinerton Hill, Gingerlina has produced a couple of foals by Court Cave, a 2019 colt and in 2020 she had a filly.

About the sire

Bred by The Aga Khan, the good-topped, quick-actioned Kalanisi (bay horse, born 1996) was initially trained by Luca Cumani before switching to Michael Stoute as a 4yr-old. Showing top class form for the latter, he won Royal Ascot's Queen Anne Stakes (8f) and followed up by winning the Champion Stakes (10f) and Breeders Cup Turf (12f).
Rated 132 by Timeform at his peak.
After several years at Gilltown Stud, he transferred to Boardsmill Stud in 2008, where he was marketed as an NH Sire.
Kalanisi sired a handful of Listed winners on the flat but it was as an Jumps Sire that he made his mark.
The breakthrough for Kalanisi came through his son Katchit who only showed fair form on the flat but won the 2007 Triumph Hurdle.
Katchit provided a further showcase for Kalanisi when winning the Champion Hurdle a year later.
Top class National Hunt winners have flowed ever since with the likes of Imperial Aura, Kalashnikov, Fayonagh, Barter's Hill and Brain Power.
He was still available to a restricted book of mares in 2021, aged 25.

Form Summary

Season 2021-22 outlook

Kinerton Hill is a strong, chasing-type of gelding of Simon Gillie's who was sent straight over hurdles in the second half of last season.
He ran 4 times at distances around 2 miles but was quite backward in those early outings.
However, while never really threatening to get involved, he did show signs of improvement in those races as his confidence grew with experience.

This gelding starts the season with an official BHA Rating of 81, so we'll look for him to be more competitive in handicap hurdles/chases when stepped up in trip.

Previously....

It was at the Goffs UK Doncaster Spring Sales of 2019 that Rob Bewley secured this son of Kalanisi with a deal sealing bid of £5,000.
After initial education and some months to grow and mature, 'Bill' was sent along to us here at Dodlands Steading in the Spring of 2020 where he impressed us all with his innate raw talent during a couple of months in the yard.
He was then put away for a period at summer grass.

Now under the ownership of local racing enthusiasts Simon & Angela Gillie, we were delighted to have received Kinerton Hill back into the yard halfway through the 2020-21 jump season after having been in pre-training for a couple of months .

31 March 22 Wetherby 3m ½f Handicap Hurdle (Class 5 0-100) OR79 soft 8 ran (Callum Bewley) -  7th  (beaten 11¾l)                                   video
Close up, not always fluent, ridden and outpaced from 3 out
By the end of the day the ground was a bit drier than the official soft and there was no pace on for this contest. Having said that, Kinerton Hill had every chance here and there's no real excuses.

8 March 22 Newcastle 2m 4½f Handicap Hurdle (Class 5 0-100) OR79 good to soft 15 ran (Callum Bewley) -  8th (beaten 12¾l)                 video
Held up in rear,  some headway approaching 3 out when not clear run, kept on but never troubled leaders
On a much faster surface, Kinerton Hill was rushed off his feet early on but jumped reasonably at this good pace. He was making some headway into the straight with 3 to go but ran into a wall of horses. He needs 3 miles!

16 February 22 Wetherby 2m 3½f Handicap Hurdle (Class 5 0-100) OR76 heavy 15 ran (Callum Bewley) -  2nd (beaten 1½l)                      video
Close up, ridden along 6 out but remained prominent, driven after 4 out, kept on to lead narrowly after last, soon headed, but stayed on to line
A fine run from Kinerton Hill. Maybe in a low grade race but welcome nonetheless as it was his first signs of ability on the racecourse. He's a stuffy sort so not the easiest to get fit but just turned 6, so hopefully he can progress from here and jump a fence in time.

2 January 22 Ayr 2m 4½f Handicap Hurdle (Class 5 0-100) OR83 soft (heavy places) 15 ran (Callum Bewley) - 11th (beaten 41l)              video
In rear, behind from 5 out
Essentially a seasonal debut for Kinerton Hill who looked in need of the race and would benefit for a step up to 3 miles,

18 May 21 Hexham : 2m handicap hurdle  (Class 5 0-100) OR86 soft 12 ran (Callum Bewley) - 9th (beaten 26½l)                                           video
Dropped towards rear halfway, behind from 2 out
We squeezed in one more run for Kinerton Hill for experience and he'll be suited by staying trips next season.

1 May 21 Hexham : 2m novice hurdle  (Class 4) good to soft 11 ran (David England) - 8th (beaten 34¾l)                                                          video
Not always fluent in rear, some late headway from 2 out
Kinerton Hill has shown gradual improvement in his 3 runs this backend of the 2020-21 season. Look forward to his return after a summer at grass where he'll be aimed at small staying handicaps in 2021-22.

11 April 21 Kelso : 2m 2f Novices Hurdle (Class 4)  Good 11 ran (Craig Nichol) - 8th (Beaten 55l)                                                                video
Always in rear, lost touch from 4 out
Kinerton Hill put in a much better round of jumping on this, his second racecourse appearance. He'd be better suited by a bit of give in the ground and we hope the experience gained this season will provide a sound basis for 2021-22 .

line

18 March 21 Hexham : 2m novice hurdle  (Class 4) soft 11 ran (Sean Quinlan) -   pulled up                                                                  video
Not fluent in rear, tailed off when pulled up before 2 out.
