The family
Southway Queen raced in English Points for 3 seasons winning twice, placed several times prior to performing with credit in handicap hurdles, similarly winning once and placed several times.
Grand-dam Nearly A Score won a Point and showed fair form over
fences without winning but was Grade 2 placed twice. The dam of 2
foals - both winners - with Southway Star (full sister to Southway
Queen) displaying fair form in her 4 hurdle and 7 chase victories.
The 3rd dam, Boherash, was also a winner with a bumper and
hurdle to her credit.
Jimmy's Jet is the first foal of Southway Queen but hails from a family that includes 2019 Cheltenham Festival winner Beware The Bear.
About the sire
Jet Away (bay h born 2007) raced for 3 seasons for Henry Cecil before moving for a final season when a 6yr-old to Australia. A big, useful looking type on the racecourse, he achieved a Timeform rating of 118. He won a Listed event over 10 furlongs at Goodwood and a Group 3 handicap also over 10 furlongs at Caulfield in Australia.
He is a 3 parts brother to Champion Sire Dansili, and since 2015 he
has stood for a modest fee at Arctic Tack Stud in Ireland. His
oldest stock turned 4 in 2020, so not really enough time to make a
mark Under Rules but he has been hitting the headlines in the Irish
Point field. A handful of winners already from very few runners has
raised his profile considerably.
At the 2020 NH Store Sales his progeny were all the rage, attracting
prices up to €50,000.
And look out for February '20 Irish Point winner Brandy Love who was sold for €200k shortly afterwards to join WP Mullins.
Season 2021-22 outlook
Following his bumper win in late October, Jimmy's Jet was purchased in a private deal and left the yard in mid November
Jimmy's Jet was one of the first of the winter string to arrive at
Dodlands Steading - in mid July - for the forthcoming NH 2021-22
season.
'Tyson' did spend a fair amount of time at Dodlands last season and
was actually in the yard in the Spring earlier this year but we
delayed his debut run as we felt another summer at grass would be
most beneficial.
That seems to have been a wise move, as this gelding has flourished
at grass and has been impressing connections during morning
exercise.
A bumper run won't be far way (ground dependent in October or November) for this nice gelding, a promising sort for the season.
Previously....
Bought by Rob Bewley
at the delayed Goffs UK 2020 Spring Sale which was actually held at
the end of July.
So, not the usual numbers in attendance but abiding the the strict
measures that prevailed at the time, Rob was on hand to cast his eye
over a number of ear-marked catalogue selections. The gelding was
bought in partnership with fellow Scottish owner Jimmy Fyffe.
As an NH Sire, Jet Away wouldn't have started off his career with
anything approaching a band of select blue-blooded mares. And yet,
albeit from a small sample, he has returned excellent Irish
Point-to-Point figures (wins and place) during the early part of
2020 that made quite a few judges sit up and pay attention.
Although a rarity these days, 'Tyson' was bought as a 4yr-old at the NH Store Sales in 2020.
Having already been broken-in pre sale, this gelding came straight to Dodlands
Steading for a few weeks of pre-training. And he was quite backward,
so not much had been done with him at home pre-sale - just the way
we like it!
By the end of August '20, this fellow had shown a lot of promise on
the gallops and was still devouring his food and maturing well but
he was sent back to his owner to mature during the worst of the
winter.
