The family

Owner breeder Bill Aitchison had his mare Border Flora in training under rules with Willie Amos from 2009-12 when she was placed in a few hurdle races. She later went on to win a couple of Point-to-Points.
"Janie" is her first foal.

She comes from a fine jumping family as her dam Faucon was a winner on the Flat in France at 3, and has bred 5 jumping winners including the multiple winners As I Am (twice at Listed hurdle level) and Western Way (successful on the Flat and over hurdles).
Faucon is a half sister to Be Fair who won 8 races across all 3 of the NH disciplines in the early years of this century.

Subsequently under the ownership of Chris Dawson at Nunstainton Stud in County Durham, Border Flora has had a bay filly (b 2020) by Gemix, and a couple of bay fillies (b2021 & b2022) by their own stallion Dragon Dancer. And in 2022, she was covered by another in house resident in Cannock Chase.

About the sire

Black Sam Bellamy (bay horse, b 1999), a big, strong close-coupled type, was trained by Aiden O'Brien in his 3 seasons on the track from 2-4.  Of his 4 wins, two were Group 1 affairs - over 12f at San Siro and the Tattersalls Gold Cup (10f) the following season.
He achieved a Timeform rating of 121 at his peak.
Of course, it is his pedigree that has proved an even better attraction to breeders. One of 9 black-type performers out of the great broodmare Urban Sea, Black Sam Bellamy is a full brother to the immense Galileo and a half-brother to Sea The Stars.
Retired to stud in Germany in 2004 where he stood for 5 seasons as a Flat Sire before he relocated to Shade Oak Stud in 2009 to start a new career as an NH Sire at a reasonably priced £3k per cover.
Amongst his best progeny have been Graded chase winner The Giant Bolster, Graded chase/hurdle winner Sam Spinner, Mildmay Chase winner Sam Brown & multiple Grade 1 winning French hurdler Galop Marin. He died in 2018 but the string of high class progeny will flow for years to come.

Form Summary

Season 2023-24 outlook

Houxty Belle is gorgeous young filly bred by Bill Aitchison who arrived in the yard at the back end of the Summer of '22.

This athletic type was noted working nicely upsides her stable companions each morning early in the 2022-23 season but ran very green on her racecourse debut in the middle of May at Hexham, whereupon she was roughed off for a spell at grass.

So, on the face of it, she does have a wee bit to prove but she''ll be trained for another appearance around the turn of the year.
