The family

Dark Daisy ran a couple of times over hurdles without much success, but had previously won an Irish Point, and been placed several times.

'Seb' is the 3rd produce of Dark Daisy, his two year older half brother by Beneficial is Classic Ben. He has won 2 hurdle races and enjoyed an excellent 2018-19 season when winning a valuable Class 2 staying handicap at Sandown in February.
Dark Daisy also has a full brother to 'Seb' born in 2017, a 2019 bay gelding by Milan (achieved 25k as a 3 yr old), a 2021 colt by Getaway and was again covered by Getaway in 2022.
The grand-dam Josie's Turn has bred a couple of winners in the shape of Numbercruncher who is a triple chase winner/multiple Point winner, and Heart's Delight, a winner over fences.
Interestingly, as a broodmare Heart's Delight has a gelding by Prince Flori called Destiny Is All who has won 2 chases and been placed a further 5 times for Lucinda Russell since the start of the 2019-20 season.

About the sire

The German bred Prince Flori (brown horse born 2003) was trained in Germany by Sascha Smrczek and won 7 races in a career spanning 4 seasons from 3 - 6 yrs old. A tall colt in stature, he was a very smart performer who stayed 12 furlongs and acted on soft and good to firm ground.
He won 5 Group races, the best of which was a Group 1 at Baden-Baden as a 3yr old.

Retired to stud in 2011, he moved to England in 2012 for one season before locating to Knockhouse Stud in Ireland where he stood for a number of years. He has an attraction in his pedigree to breeders in that he is completely free of Northern Dancer, who appears in the majority of broodmare pedigrees these days.

He has had few runners to date but with his first Irish crop being 5yr olds in 2019, but as well as Stolen Money & Destiny Is All, the Irish trained Emancipator has won a couple of races over jumps.

Season 2022-23 outlook

What a season Stolen Money had in 2021-22!!

3 from 3 in handicap hurdles over 3 miles at Carlisle, Haydock & Ayr, capped by powerful finishing from 2 out each time. It goes without saying that his jumping was much improved and from a starting mark of OR99, he ended up on OR116. Only the lack of rain softened ground meant his season ended in mid February. Of course, the original plan was to jump fences but he was in such fine heart over hurdles that......well, if it ain't broken don't fix it.

The rangy, chasing-type Stolen Money will go novice chasing this season over staying trips when the ground is soft. Right from the get-go.
With a half brother in Classic Ben who won a £50k added 3 mile chase at Sandown a couple of seasons back, we're very excited to see Stolen Money over fences and the 7 yr old starts off on a reasonable handicap mark (OR116) inherited from his handicap hurdles campaign.

We hope this progressive type will continue to give a good account of himself this coming season.

Sadly, Stolen Money passed away in December 2022 due to complications arising from the injury sustained at Kelso in late November.

Previously....
Stolen Money was a 2018 Sales purchase by CEO Mark 'Mouse' Young originally on behalf of The Buyers Club syndication.

Stolen Money wouldn't be as sharp as some of his stable mates who would be more inclined to show a turn of foot in bumper races. But we'd got him to a reasonable level of maturity in early Spring of 2020 for a bumper run at Newcastle in March, which provided valuable experience although he was outpaced once the pace increased in the final 4 furlongs.

He had 4 runs over hurdles in his second season (2020-21) which showed him to be more of a dour stayer but he did improve with each run. But he did manage a couple of second places, plugging on through deep ground at Carlisle. His jumping needed to improve too - but who could have foreseen what season 2021-22 would bring?

24 November 22 Kelso : 3m 2f nov hdcp chase (Class 5 0-120) OR 115 soft 5 ran (Craig Nichol) - fell                                                       video
Close up, still every chance off quickening pace when fell 13th
He'd made a couple of very slight mistakes on the way round but just as the business end of the race was commencing, Stolen Money got in too close to the 5th last and toppled over. He suffered a bad cut to his near hind fore, so could be off for a wee while.

9 November 22 Ayr 2m 4½f Nov Hdcp Chase (Class 4 0-120) OR 120 soft 7 ran (C Nichol) - 6th  (beaten 20l)                                        video
Raced wide, blundered 2nd but remained close up till outpaced and lost touch appr 4 out
Chase debut from Stolen Money who jumped much better on the second circuit. He showed though that 3 miles would seem to be his minimum trip on testing ground. Not a bad fencing debut by any means.

15 February 22 Ayr 3m ½f Handicap Hurdle (Class 4 0-115) OR 111 heavy 7 ran (C Nichol) - won (by 3l)                                              video
Made all, quickened clear 4 out, ridden 3 out, ran on well, readily
Another thrilling performance from Stolen Money to complete the hat-trick of handicap hurdle victories. He is such a laid back character that he could've used some company up front but as it was Craig took full advantage and had the race in his pocket by the home turn.

30 December 21 Haydock 3m ½f Handicap Hurdle (Class 4 0-115) OR 103 heavy 6 ran (T Gillard) - won (by 5½l)                                video
Disputed lead to 3rd, tracked leader, hit 4 out, led 3 out and pushed clear, stayed on well to win with a lot in hand
The heavier the ground the better the performance. being honest, we were taken aback by the amount of improvement shown here by Stolen Money. He flattened 4 out and fiddled a couple but nothing was stopping him here as he powered clear 3 out. He does give his all!!

line

8 November 21 Carlisle 3m ½f Handicap Hurdle (Class 4 0-115) OR 99 good to soft (soft places) 11 ran (C Nichol) - won (by ½l)   video
Always prominent travelling well, led 4 out till headed and not fluent 3 out, ridden to challenge after 2 out, stayed on strongly to lead after last
There's no doubt the persistent rain throughout the day plus the use of the more galloping outer hurdles track were factors in Stolen Money's win here. But let's not detract from a very fine ride by Craig and a much improved performance from the gelding. More to come!

line

22 February 21 Carlisle 3m 1f Handicap Hurdle (Class 5 0-105) OR 99 soft (heavy places) 12 ran (B Campbell (3)) - 2nd (beaten 3½l)   video
Prominent, not always fluent next, ridden to challenge after 3 out, hard driven to lead after 2 out, headed run-in, weakened and just held onto second
First handicap for Stolen Money and another war of attrition at Carlisle, albeit on the tighter inner track. Ran well though and he's improving little by little. Tough and genuine sort.

line

18 January 21 Ayr : 3m ½f Novices Hurdle (Class 4) heavy 5 ran (Blair Campbell (3)) - 4th (beaten 21l)                                                     video
Disputed lead until mistake and headed 3 out, soon outpaced
Stolen Money ran a reasonable race here, confirming once again that he's an out and out stayer. But he gained valuable experience and should now qualify for a handicap mark.

line

13 December 20 Carlisle 3m 1f Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) soft 8 ran (Blair Campbell (3)) - 2nd (beaten 9½l)                                                        video
Always prominent, hit 4th, not fluent next, disputed lead 3 out and soon went on, ridden and headed appr last, kept on but no chance with winner
This wasn't a deep race by any means but the winner looks a fair sort. Stolen Money had the run of the race up front, and from 3 out his only serious challenge came from Seven Eye Bridge. This lad stays well, and we can't wait to jump a fence with him in the right grade.

line

11 November 20 Ayr 2m 4½f Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) soft 8 ran (Blair Campbell (3)) - pulled up                                                                       video
Not fluent in rear, ridden after 4 out, behind when pulled up after 2 out
Hopefully Stolen Money will benefit from this first outing over hurdles and only second race overall. He'll need to brush up his jumping but that is an area we think he can improve.  A work in progress, for sure.

line

3 March 20 Newcastle : 2m NH Flat race (Class 5) soft (heavy places) 8 ran (C Whillans (3)) - 7th  (beaten 54l)                                              video
Ran in snatches, in touch with leaders on outer, weakened over 4f out
Stolen Money has very much the profile of a stayer and not really a bumper type. But, he will come on for the experience gained here.
