The family
Dark Daisy ran a couple of times over hurdles without much success, but had previously won an Irish Point, and been placed several times.
'Seb' is the 3rd produce of Dark Daisy, his two year older half
brother by Beneficial is Classic Ben. He has won 2 hurdle races and
enjoyed an excellent 2018-19 season when winning a valuable Class 2
staying handicap at Sandown in February.
Dark Daisy also has a full brother to 'Seb' born in 2017, a 2019 bay
gelding by Milan (achieved 25k as a 3 yr old), a 2021 colt by Getaway
and was again covered by Getaway in 2022.
The grand-dam Josie's Turn has bred a couple of winners in the
shape of Numbercruncher who is a triple chase winner/multiple Point
winner, and Heart's Delight, a winner over fences.
Interestingly, as a broodmare Heart's Delight has a gelding by
Prince Flori called Destiny Is All who has won 2 chases and been
placed a further 5 times for Lucinda Russell
since the start of the 2019-20 season.
About the sire
The German bred Prince Flori (brown horse born 2003) was trained in
Germany by Sascha Smrczek and won 7 races in a career spanning 4
seasons from 3 - 6 yrs
old. A tall colt in stature, he was a very smart performer who
stayed 12 furlongs and acted on soft and good to firm ground.
He won 5 Group races, the best of which was a Group 1 at Baden-Baden
as a 3yr old.
Retired to stud in 2011, he moved to England in 2012 for one season before locating to Knockhouse Stud in Ireland where he stood for a number of years. He has an attraction in his pedigree to breeders in that he is completely free of Northern Dancer, who appears in the majority of broodmare pedigrees these days.
He has had few runners to date but with his first Irish crop being 5yr olds in 2019, but as well as Stolen Money & Destiny Is All, the Irish trained Emancipator has won a couple of races over jumps.
Season 2022-23 outlook
What a season Stolen Money had in 2021-22!!
3 from 3 in handicap hurdles over 3 miles at Carlisle, Haydock & Ayr,
capped by powerful finishing from 2 out each time. It goes without
saying that his jumping was much improved and from a starting mark
of OR99, he ended up on OR116. Only the lack of rain softened ground
meant his season ended in mid February. Of course, the original plan
was to jump fences but he was in such fine heart over hurdles
that......well, if it ain't broken don't fix it.
The rangy, chasing-type Stolen Money will go novice chasing this
season over staying trips when the ground is soft. Right from the
get-go.
With a half
brother in Classic Ben who won a £50k added 3 mile chase at Sandown
a couple of seasons back, we're very excited to see Stolen Money
over fences and the 7 yr old starts off on a reasonable handicap
mark (OR116) inherited from his handicap hurdles campaign.
We hope this progressive type will continue to give a good account of himself this coming season.
Sadly, Stolen Money passed away in December 2022 due to
complications arising from the injury sustained at Kelso in late
November.
Previously....
Stolen Money was a 2018 Sales purchase by CEO Mark 'Mouse' Young
originally on
behalf of The Buyers Club syndication.
Stolen Money wouldn't be as sharp as some of his stable mates who
would be more inclined to show a turn of foot in bumper races. But
we'd got him to a reasonable level of maturity in early Spring of
2020 for a bumper run at Newcastle in March, which provided valuable
experience although he was outpaced once the pace increased in the
final 4 furlongs.
He had 4 runs over hurdles in his second season (2020-21) which showed him to be more of a dour stayer but he did improve with each run. But he did manage a couple of second places, plugging on through deep ground at Carlisle. His jumping needed to improve too - but who could have foreseen what season 2021-22 would bring?
